Where You Can Buy the Right Printed Pants for Summer

The Lounge Pant

NEW YORK CITY — Printed pants are one of summer’s hottest trends, and they’re seriously versatile. You can elevate office attire with tailored styles in fun, bold prints or try a loose, breathable pair for running weekend errands. Dressing them up or down can be as simple as changing your shoes.

While you can’t go wrong with a basic white tee or neutral blouse, try colorful accessories to give the outfit some extra oomph. Add accents with statement jewelry, or a bag or headscarf in a clashing shade. Mixing prints is a fashion-forward way to try the trend, and stripes are the perfect starting point since they go with almost anything. Just stick to a similar color palette.

Experiment with these six great styles and have some fun with your outfit! It is summer, after all.

The Lounge Pant
Luxuriate in what are essentially on-trend track pants; being in vogue is rarely this deliciously comfortable! Your initial instinct might be to keep everything casual, but these colorful joggers can really pop with a tailored blazer, a glamorous sequin cami and slide mules.

The Harem Pant

The Harem Pant
The drop crotch is the fashion world’s cilantro, a divisive silhouette that’s adored and abhorred in equal measure. Personally I’m a fan, plus harem pants are comfortable to the point of indecency. But if you’re not into it, these pants from Free People come in a variety of prints and have an elastic waistband; pull them up for a sag-free, high-waisted fit.

The Trouser

The Trouser
Fitted, tailored trousers are perfect for the office with the addition of a blouse and blazer. On the weekend, they work just as well with a T-shirt and sneakers. When the weather cools down at night, toughen up the look with a leather jacket.

The Legging

The Legging
To avoid looking like you just came from a yoga class, pair leggings with ankle boots or hi-tops. If you do wear sandals, make sure they’re on the dressier side, like a gladiator or a wedge.

The Boyfriend Jeans

The Boyfriend Jeans
Skinny jeans in humid weather elicit the same reaction in me as canine nail polish: why? These loose fitting pairs with geometric patterns combine two of this season’s trends: boyfriend jeans and printed pants. Balance the slouchy denim with feminine touches, like pointed toe shoes and a bright lipstick.

Pictured from left to right: Maison Scotch bleached geo pants, $139 at Life:Curated and Isabel Marant Étoile Nea boyfriend jeans, $340 from barneys.com.

The Wide Leg

The Wide Leg
Wide-legged pants can be extremely flattering when styled right, making you look taller and slimmer. If you’re petite, give yourself some extra lift with platforms or heels, and use a belt to accentuate your waist. Keep it from looking sloppy with a form-fitting, tailored or structured top; a boxy cropped tee looks insanely chic with billowing, high waisted pants.

All You Ever Wanted To Know About Earrings But Were Afraid to Ask

It is thought that earrings date back to 3000 BC where they originated in Asia and appeared in 2 formats, one being the simple hoop earring and the other the more elaborate pendant earring.

The oldest earrings ever found by archaeologists were discovered in royal graves in Iraq and date back to around 2500 BC. Gold, silver and bronze hoop earrings have also been found dating back to 2000 BC in Crete. In those days it was customary to bury jewellery with the dead.

In 16th century in the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt a type of earring called an earplug became fashionable and these fitted snugly into a wide stretched hole in the earlobe. This type of piercing is seen on the sculpture of Tutankhamen.
Poverty in the Dark ages meant that work with precious metals dwindled although some goldsmiths preserved designs that were to later emerge in 7th century Greece. The most popular earrings then there were the pendant type and they often featured a bird or likenesses of the gods Eros and Nike.

In the 2nd century during the Roman Empire, earrings became a popular way for rich women to show off their wealth and the use of precious gemstones in the jewellery also became more popular.

During the Middle Ages, earrings became less popular and practical due to the popularity of elaborate hairstyles and headdresses.  In fact for a time it was considered immoral for respectable married woman not to have their heads covered in public.

In 16th century Italy, hairstyles changed with hair being swept away from the face leaving ears exposed although for another 100 years things stayed the same in England, Spain and France with the wearing of high collars keeping earrings out of fashion.

By the 17th century, earrings became very fashionable accessory for the well dressed lady across the whole of Europe. One of the most popular designs of those times were the very large heavy pendant type earrings called girandoles which were great favourites of Queen Victoria. These earrings required a substantial amount of precious metals and gemstones and so were very heavy, which meant that most people that wore them suffered from elongated earlobes.

Although earrings were popular with wealthy people throughout the ages, they were also popular with poorer people who adopted their own styles which were less elaborate and made from less expensive materials.

It wasn’t until the 20th century that earrings were completely revolutionised. Different fittings appeared such as screw and clip on as well as those for pierced ears and it also became the norm for women to wear earrings in the day and not just for special occasions. The 1960’s marked a massive change for the wearing of earrings when designs became completely unrestrained and it became common to see men also wearing earrings although most only usually wear one earring. Women began to collect earrings and with so many designs available the choices were endless.

Today the choice is even greater and the popularity of earrings increases with many people now having more than one set of piercings in which to display their jewellery. Modern materials such as titanium and different types of plastics have also become popular in the making of earrings because of their lightness, design possibilities and in the case of titanium because of its hypoallergenic qualities.

There is now a never ending choice of different types of earrings from modern trendy cheap and cheerful everyday earrings to the more expensive gold, silver or platinum earrings inlaid with diamonds and other precious gemstones.

Confessions of a Designer Handbag Junkie

As you are likely aware, I am a designer handbag fanatic.  I have been advised by family and friends that this could be developing into a problem, but I am confident that I have it under control.  Sure, I have bounced my rent check to purchase a new purse.  Who hasn’t?  There have been times when I have skipped out on my utility bills, so I would have enough cash to buy a new handbag.  Who wouldn’t?

I have spent countless nights dreaming about shopping for the latest fashionable designs.  So what if I want to have Kenneth Cole’s babies.  I really don’t see the problem here.  To make my mother happy, I have made the following pledge (ever-so-loosely based on the “twelve step” program):

My name is Cathy, and I am addicted to designer handbags and high fashion.  I admit that I am powerless over Prada, and that my life has become unmanageable in certain respects.  I have faith that a power greater than Dior can restore my sanity.  I have made a pledge to turn my will and my life over to the power of the House of Gucci.  I have made a searching and fearless inventory of every handbag on bagborroworsteal.com.

I have made an admission to Chloe, myself, and my friend Sara regarding the exact nature of my wrongs.  I am ready for Melie Bianco to remove all these defects of character, and I humbly implore her to remove my shortcomings.  I have made a list of all the handbag designers I have harmed with my caustic language, and I am ready and willing to make amends to them all.  I have gladly continued to take personal inventory of all my designer purses, and when I was wrong it was promptly admitted.

I have sought through prayer and meditation to improve my conscious contact with Vivienne Westwood as I understand her, praying only for knowledge of her will for me and the power to carry that out.  After having this spiritual awakening, I have tried to carry this message other handbag junkies.  I have tried to apply these principles in all my erm…..affairs.  My name is Cathy, and I am addicted to designer handbags and high fashion.

Buying a Swimsuit: A Guide for Women of all Shapes and Sizes

It is the time of the year that every woman dreads – Swimsuit season!  No matter what size a women is, she probably panics over picking out a swimsuit and worries that it fits her figure well.  Of course, every woman wants to accent her best features while minimizing her weak spots in any clothing, but this is especially true in swimsuits.

Swimsuits are so revealing, there is very little margin for error when trying to choose the right one.  All women want a swimsuit that looks good on them, but if they are going to be spending a lot of time in the water over the summer, then comfort is also important.  Here are a few tips and hints you can follow that will make your swimsuit shopping much less stressful.

Large Busts

Woman with large busts should find a swimsuit that fully supports them.  The best swimsuits for that are ones with halter-tops or molded under wire cups to keep everything in place.  A swimsuit with the additional strap across the back, along the bust line, also provides additional support.  Women with an inverted shape (their top is wider than their hips), should choose a two-piece with a skort or shorts.  This will help balance their top and bottom, making them look more proportional.

Large Hips and Thighs

A woman with a large rear end should look for swimsuits with boy cut bottoms.  This helps hide your rear but also looks cute and is comfortable.  The skirted bikini bottoms are also cute – giving a hint of your legs, but still hiding your rear end.  Avoid the skimpy bikini briefs at all costs!  For the top, you can also choose something that is catchy and brightly colored.  This will draw attention upwards away from your rear end.  Again, avoid horizontal stripes, as they will make your rear look even larger than it actually is, although diagonal stripes might create a more flattering illusion.

Curvy women should consider the tankini.  The tankini is a two-piece swimsuit with a top that resembles a tank top.  With it, you can pair the hipster bottoms.  These cool looking bottoms provide far more support for your curves than the traditional bikini bottoms.  You may also want to try on one of the one piece swimsuits with cutouts on the sides.  This can have a slimming effect while still showing off your curves.

Larger Belly

If you have a large stomach, you should stick to a one-piece suit.  However, if you really want a two-piece, look for one of the halter-tops that fall over the waist of your bikini bottoms.  This not only hides your stomach, but also helps elongate your body, making you appear taller and thus slimmer.  You may also want to check to see if the store has a swimsuit that offers tummy control.  A printed suit will also take the focus away from your stomach and make you look slimmer.

Plus Size Swimsuits

Large women probably have the hardest time picking out a swimsuit.  If you are overweight, you are probably self-conscious enough when choosing regular clothes, but do not let this discourage you from enjoying some fun in the sun.  Stick to dark colors like navy blue and black to help make you look slimmer.  Avoid a swimsuit with horizontal stripes, as that gives the optical illusion that you are wider than you actually are.  Spandex is a good choice for swimsuit cloth because it stretches, but it is very important that you get the right size swimsuit.  Do not try to squeeze into a swimsuit that is two sizes too small for vanity reasons.  Picking the appropriate size will always look better on you.  Many stores let you mix and match tops and bottoms, so if you are top heavy or bottom heavy, you can make sure you get the correct size for each section.  Remember that swimsuits usually run smaller than regular clothes, so you may have to set a size or two larger than you normally wear.

The most important thing for you to know when purchasing a new swimsuit is to know what works best for your features.  And, don’t purchase the first suit you try on unless you just really love it.  Take several in the dressing room with you and see which one looks best.  It may even help to take along a friend to give you an honest opinion of how it looks.

Choosing Quality Bedding For Comfort And Fashion

If you are considering redecorating your bedroom, one of the easiest ways to add some extra flair and comfort without too many extra books is to simply invest in a new set of bedding.

Bedding fashions are right in step with other fashion trends, and that means that floral patterns are out and solid color combinations are in. You should pick a color scheme that coordinates with your room color as well as the furniture in your bedroom. Also consider the other accessories in your bedroom such as paintings, rugs, and mirrors before selecting bedding that will compliment the room and achieve the style and effect you are after.

Nothing beats a good duvet for looks or for style. You can buy duvet covers in many different styles, and a duvet is a very comfortable replacement for the traditional quilt. Remember to buy both an inner and outer cover for your duvet, and if you are allergy prone look into alternatives to the goose feather or down stuffed duvet. Watch out, because testing by the Federal Food and Drug Agency has determined that no material is truly hypoallergenic, as most materials could cause a negative reaction even if it’s a minute portion of the population. Based on these findings, the United States Supreme Court struck down the FDA’s definition of hypoallergenic, and thus there is no real standard for what the term actually means. Companies who manufacture duvets could technically market any product as hypoallergenic.

You will want to do your research on the company and how they approach their research before purchasing one of their “hypoallergenic” bedding products. Also, keep in mind that materials such as cotton, wool, and silk very rarely cause allergic reactions, so the odds are that you are safe in buying a duvet stuffed with them or other bedding made of these fabrics. The same is true of manufactured sheets and bed liners.

Color scheme is important to consider when choosing your bedding design for practical as well as fashionable reasons. There are bedding color schemes in darker colors, but these tend to stain. Remember as well to buy a liner for your mattress.

Finally, a bed skirt adds a beautiful and classy touch to any bedding fashion scheme.

Bracelets Through The Ages

The earliest bracelets date back to around 2500 BC and were those worn by the Sumerians in southern Mesopotamia. Bracelets, necklaces, anklets, finger rings and ear rings made the women of Sumer into show windows of their husband’s prosperity. Bracelets were found in the tombs of Ur where it was customary to bury royalty with their jewellery and unfortunately their poor servants.

By about 2000 BC, in Ancient Egypt, bracelets emerged as major pieces of jewellery. Bracelets were found in the ruins from the Vesuvias eruption in Pompeii in 79 AD.
It was during the age of the Egyptian Pharaohs that charm bracelets were first seen although charms themselves dated back as far as the Neolithic era when men would gather unusual bits of wood or pieces of stone which would be carried about their person in order to ward off their enemies. So these charms were considered ‘lucky charms’ and powerful protectors against evil.
It wasn’t until the time of the Pharaohs though that these charms were incorporated into elaborate pieces of jewellery such as wrist and neck bracelets which were not only deemed to offer protection but were also a sign of how prosperous the person had been in life and after death would be an indicator to the Gods of this persons proper status in the after life.

In Grecian times bracelets were popular with men and soldiers wore defensive bands of leather, often decorated with gold, silver and or gemstones, on their forearms. They were known as ‘Bracels,’ from the Latin Brachium, meaning, ‘arm.’ When women caught on that these Bracels would look great on them, they started wearing smaller versions, called little Bracels…or ‘Bracel-ets.’

The history of bracelets stretches forward through the Middle Ages of medieval Europe through the Baroque period of the 18th century, and on right through to the present.

Throughout time, bracelets have been made from many different materials such as leather, iron, copper, beads, bone and teeth as well as precious metals and gemstone.
Throughout the ages bracelets have always been popular and the styles seem to have varied according to dress styles. In cultures where people wore sleeveless or short sleeved attire such as the Romans and ancient Greeks, the wearing of bracelets both on the upper and lower arm became popular with both men and women. The wearing of upper arm bracelets is still popular today with modern fashionable skimpy clothing lending itself well to the wearing of more jewellery.

Today, bracelets are worn by both men and women in a variety of materials such as traditional precious metals like gold silver and platinum. Modern plastics and acrylics are now much used to make trendy, unusual bracelets as well as metals like titanium and zirconium which have become popular because they are hard wearing, very light and hypoallergenic. Whatever your tastes and whatever your budget, there is an enormous choice of bracelets and bangles to suit everyone.

Sports Jerseys For Casual Fashion

Sports jerseys are among the hottest casual attire on the market. They are, in fact, so fashionable that even professional cycling jerseys have gained  in popularity.

Whether the preference is to wear jerseys from a favorite vintage team or from present day NFL or NBA teams, wearing a sports jersey is on target for looking good. While the consumer is certainly free to pay top dollar for a jersey at the local sporting goods store, they could save a bundle at a great online sporting goods site. Web sites often have the best selection as well as the lowest prices. With the high security features that modern sites employ, problems like identity theft and fraud have become much less of a concern.

Vintage sports jerseys are perhaps one of the top casual clothing accessories around. They represent legends from a nostalgic era. They embody all of the heroes that can only be seen in historic reels or ESPN Classics. Playing in a simpler era, these athletes personify a time when drug tests, court cases, and other distractions weren’t a part of the game. Plus, these jerseys just look cool. Whether the goal is to purchase an old Houston Astros jersey with the rainbow stripes, or an old Hartford Whalers sweater, they have the old-fashioned style sure to stand out in a crowd.

Of course, sports jerseys are stylish as well. There is the world famous purple and gold jersey of the world-class Los Angeles Lakers, or the black and white of the San Antonio Spurs. Or if American football is the preferred sport, how about the yellow and black of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Whether the jersey is from the NBA or NFL, jerseys also help proclaim allegiance to the wearer’s favorite teams. Jerseys are the best way to loudly and proudly display loyalty for local or favorite clubs. These jerseys can even fire up a crowd when worn to the game.

Finally, don’t forget the lesser known sports.  Soccer jerseys, and thanks to the rising popularity of Lance Armstrong, those professional cycling tops are swelling in popularity as well. In fact, cycling jerseys from The Discovery Channel, and the US Postal Service are among the fastest selling items in any sport.

Keep in mind that it’s not likely to be appreciated, though, if the opposing team’s sports jersey is worn to the home coliseum. A favorite jersey can actually become downright hazardous in the more zealous sports towns such as Detroit, Philadelphia, or New York. Wear the unpopular team’s jersey at your own risk in such towns, and consider having a change of clothes in case things gets out of control.

‘Tis the Season for Flower Girl Dresses and Children’s Formal Wear

Spring is just around the corner, which means it’s the season for children’s formal wear. Weddings call for flower girl dresses and boy’s tuxedos, as well as for First Communion dresses and boy’s suits. What’s in this season? Read on to find out!

Flower Girl Dresses

When it comes to flower girl dresses, you have several options that will bring smiles to the faces of your attendees, and make your flower girls feel like little princesses. A sleeveless satin bodice with a satin skirt and organza overlay is a simple but stunning combination. Scattered colored stones with a matching band at the waistband coordinates well with the attire of others in the bridal party. Depending on the age of the flower girl, choose either tea length or floor length.

For a feminine yet upscale look, choose a flower girl dress that is tiered in the back. A full peau satin skirt with one tier in front and three tiers in back, accented with a large bow with tails and fabric roses, will make the day special for both the flower girl and the bride.

If you’re budget conscious, don’t overlook some of the discount flower girl dresses that are available online. Just as beautiful as the pricier flower girl dresses, you can find satin and organza dresses, as well as tiered dresses, for between $35 and $80.

Communion Dresses

Every little girl will remember her First Communion for the rest of her life, so Communion dresses are an important part of the ritual. An organza scalloped princess style gown with coordinating veil will make her feel special, as will the simple lines of a satin Communion dress with lace and a removable bolero jacket.

Boy’s Suits

This season, there are many choices for boy’s suits. Whether it’s his First Communion or whether he’s attending in a family wedding, he’ll be thrilled to wear a traditional five-piece suit. Double-breasted jackets are back in style, and come in white for the perfect First Communion outfit. For a more formal occasion, a boy’s tuxedo – with or without tails – is always appropriate.

Christening Dresses

When it comes to girls’ christening dresses there are many choices. An all-white batiste dress with smocking on a bodice dotted with white pearls, along with matching bloomers, is adorable. For more traditional christening dresses you can choose a length of up to 32 inches with intricate embroidery and a matching bonnet. Keep in mind that a christening dress is something that can be handed down for generations, so choosing a timeless style may be in order.

Christening Outfits for Boys

For boys, christening outfits are usually five-piece sets that consist of a shirt, pants, bow tie, vest, and hat. The typical pant length is either shorts or knickers. Some sets feature brocade, while others have satin trim.

How to Buy

With the Internet, a wide variety of children’s formal wear is available at the click of a mouse. Plus, you’re more likely to find discount flower girl dresses and bargains in children’s formal wear at an online store. When ordering online, look for a company that not only offers flower girl dresses, boy’s tuxedos, Communion dresses, and christening dresses, but that also asks you for the date of the event. Before ordering, check out the sizing charts, and don’t hesitate to ask questions. Then, on the big day, make sure that your little ones enjoy themselves, and feel as special as they look!

Caring Of A Tie

If a tie could speak, it would implore you to treat it patiently for longevity. A badly treated tie, has a short life and you spend more money than necessary for replenishing your stock of ties.

Proper care of the tie will ensure that there is no wearing of the fabric and prevents damage to the tie. The most common mistake in the caring is at the end of the tie-wearing time period. Most of us have a tendency to just yank off the tie and pull hard to untie the knot.

To avoid damage to the tie while taking it off and untying it, exercise a little patience. Carefully loosen the tie and take it off and then untie the knot. The best way to untie is to reverse the steps used to tie the knot. After untying, loosely roll up the tie and store it.

It is highly recommended that even as a novice tie wearer, you never store your tie without untying its knot. It can lead to permanent wrinkles on the tie. Keep a few days space between wearing the same tie. This allows the tie to return to its wrinkle-free state.

Always store your ties by loosely rolling them. To roll a tie, begin by holding the narrow end against your palm, and then winding up the rest of the tie, with the wide end on the outside. Lay the roll on a flat surface on the coiled side. This will ease out the wrinkles in a few hours, leaving your tie fresh for use again. Same method is used to store ties while traveling. Another way to store ties can be to invest in a tie organizer or a tie case.

If you get a stain on your tie, take it to the dry cleaner and explain the origin of the stain. Silk ties do not fare well in dry cleaning, so the stained tie is either treated by hand or replaced with another one. Do not machine wash ties as it stretches and spoils the tie.

Do not pull any loose thread on the tie; carefully trim it down with the help of scissors.

You can lightly iron the tie (without steam) at low temperatures to smooth out some wrinkles.  Hot ironing is not good for ties as it weakens the fabric. Use the appropriate fabric setting while ironing the tie.

You can also steam out the wrinkles by hanging the tie in the bathroom during a hot shower, or by holding it over a kettle with steam. You must not allow water to touch the tie though. To dry the tie, roll it up in a clean towel and leave for one day. You will have a wrinkle free tie the next day.

Washing your tie can lead to shrinkage so you must avoid hand or machine washing, instead trust a dry cleaner with your tie. If you dry clean silk ties or they will lose their luster and color. Also keep water away from your silk ties as it will stain them. Keep cologne away from your tie. It is the fastest way to ensure your tie loses color. Blot any stain on your tie, but do not rub it. Rubbing will spread the strain. Some patience and a little careful handling can give your tie longevity and durability.
